Hello World,

If we take a step back for a minute, from a lot of the chaos in the economy and politics, we would realize that we are undergoing the most rapid societal transformations ever. The reason why we can be sure this is true is because of how much our lives are becoming increasingly dependent on technology. The corona virus pandemic forced the entire world into seclusion, temporarily avoiding other humans, pressuring the world to adopt technologies without choice. Experts say that the pandemic enabled the widespread use of certain technologies that would have taken much longer to become pervasive otherwise. They claim that certain technologies existed already but that the adoption of them has become more necessary under the extreme circumstances.

What I would like to express throughout the semester is how much technological advancement matters to the transformation to our societies and human life. Everyone understands that technology continues to change our human lives, but some people might be more conscious of the velocity of change than others. One of the most important technological advancements that I have witnessed in my life time must be smartphones, allowing people to do almost anything from anywhere in seconds. While I cannot fathom the change that my grandparents experienced, who were all born in the 1920’s and that I have enjoyed a lot of time with, I expect our generation to experience much more change. Smartphones have enabled us to become more lazy, now that we can uber, order food and groceries, set up dates, watch movies on the go and much more. Also, smartphones have shortened our attention spans while distracting us from the real world as they have become a part of nearly every social setting. People are spending more and more time with their technologies, changing human behavior more than ever before.

Therefore, our world and the way we interact with it will continue to change exponentially with technological advancements as the driving force. Technology also helps governments and centralized forces to track and control people, which can be viewed as good or bad. Digital currency is the inevitable next advancement, furthering unity, traceability and accountability throughout the world. As the increasing opportunities with technology are endless, it is most important to understand their actual potential and applicability to forecast their significance on humans.
